This week’s potluck will be short because the Bee has been busier than a one-armed drywaller – my apologies for the short table this week.

WTF?? #1. You Mean Sarah Palin ISN’T an Average Joe Sixpack or whatever it is she calls regular people? Well, color me discombobulated, bewildered and perplexed! Ok, she never was, she’s a media creation, kind of like Britney Spears, only meaner and trashier. Just read about the bling she managed to snag at a recent Swag party right on the heels of her…how shall I put this kindly…UTTERLY ATROCIOUS showing on the Tonight Show. This truly was the Beverly Hillbillies in full free-stuff feeding frenzy action. Wish I could have been there to see that sight.

WTF?? #2. Personal reflection on the degradation of the quality of frozen foods. I really used to like the frozen Pepperidge Farms cakes. I haven’t had one in years. Food Lion had a BOGO sale, so I figured, what the hey, let’s get a cake! Well, the taste and texture are NOTHING like I remember. In short, it sucks. It occurs to me, this is the final warning sign. The fates have it in for us. Our hubris has reached critical mass, and when Pepperidge Farms craps out on their frozen cakes, then we can rest assured that it is indeed true: America is Doomed.

WTF?? #3. Crime and Punishment and Toyota. In 2006, Koua Fong Lee was driving his Camry when he slammed into another car at 70 mph. Three occupants of the other car were killed in that crash. Lee, a refugee from Laos, was convicted of vehicular homicide and sentenced by a jury to 8 years in prison. The jury didn’t believe him when he said the accelerator stuck and he couldn’t stop the car. Now, his story seems plausible given that Toyota has had to admit it has serious engineering problems with its cars. Toyota has only recalled the Camry back to model year 2007, though. Mr. Lee’s was a 1996. Lee’s attorneys have requested an inspection of the car in light of recent recalls. The Bee hopes that justice will be served here, and that if Mr. Lee’s accident was the result of faulty car design, that he be released.

And, for the last course,

SMF: Jetpacks!! For Sale!! A New Zealand aircraft company makes a jetpack that will go 60mph, and take you 30 miles on a tank of fuel. The Bee wants one. Seriously. Now, where did I leave that $75 grand in pocket change lying around…

  1. Ron says:

Short and sweet, Bee, just the way we likes it.

  2. Jess says:

You know what? I’m sensing you may not like $ister $arah Our Lady of perpetual victimhood very much. I think you should see someone about all this pent up, whatever it is you libruls have that makes you dislike this lovely woman.

I have got like NO comment on frozen sugar, other than why would you want to preserve yourself for all time with what is in these things? Bake a cake woman, that is your job isn’t it? :) *Jess ducks and runs* Nagging about good eating done.

You know those cars probably have it going back further they just don’t want to have to recall maybe all the older models.

Oooh, I’m not showing that to Mr Wonderful. He is a toy catcher and he would find a way to get this in the garage without my knowledge.

  3. Ron: I aim to please!

Jess: What are you saying – cakes have to be BAKED? Are you shitting me?? Nah, can’t be true, that’s crazy talk!

  4. Holte Ender says:

I forced myself to watch Palin on the Leno show, I was in rubbernecking mode, it was painful to say the least. What she will do for attention and what Leno will do for ratings is the question. The answer is absolutely anything.

  5. oso says:

    Bee,
WTF 1)I’d read a sound engineer who was in the audience of the Leno taping said the crowd was very non-receptive to her,but when he got home and watched it was obvious they messed with the sound to make it appear like she was a hit. That may be the usual deal with guests who bomb but it’s funny anyway. Both my kids can’t stand her so I know I got at least one thing right in my parenting.

WTF 2)I know you’re not a Christian but if you read your Bible I believe Revelations mentions Pepperidge Farm by name when referencing End Times. Also something in there about Cheese Whiz I think.

WTF 3)Poor bastard.Hope he gets sprung if that’s the case.

It’s kind of unseemly the way Jess spends so much effort trying to be the first commenter yet failed again.

  6. Jess says:

Oso, I have to try and not be greedy with being first poster, I’m turning over a new leaf. At the entering of this message I see you are last posting. Just saying is all :)

I heard that about Cheese Whiz but not PF, you learnz sumtin noo evrydai.

  7. I notice that once again she brought out her kids for public display.

  8. Tom Harper says:

Now be nice to Ellie May Clampett, er, I mean Sarah Palin.

I don’t remember Pepperidge Farms cakes, but for me it was Sara Lee. Their frozen cakes, especially banana and chocolate, were to die for. There must have been almost an inch of frosting on the top. Now there’s hardly any frosting, they cost five times as much and — I’m sure this has nothing to do with it — Sara Lee was bought out a long time ago by one of those huge faceless conglomerates.

I’ll take one of those jetpacks too. I’ve been fascinated by those things ever since I first saw a picture of one back in the 1950s.

  9. Holte She is like a train wreck, one can’t help but crane their head and hope they see blood.

Oso I remember the Cheese Wiz, it was right after the thing about the 7th seal being opened and everything going higgledy piggledy, but Ol’ John the Revelator never said nothin’ about Pepperidge Farms frozen cakes!

Leslie: Well, she doesn’t have much else to trot out to display. She can’t exactly rest on her intellectual laurels :)

Tom Harper: I must have missed the Sara Lee cakes…like the pies (particularly pecan), but totally missed the banana cake…not sure if I should be happy about that or not…

  10. Suzan says:

Didn’t111 they go to shit after Campbell Soup bought them? Also happened to Wolfgang Puck and Godiva chocolate.

    M’m Good!!!

  11. Beach Bum says:

…Pepperidge Farms craps out on their frozen cakes…

My wife got a free Pepperidge Farms cake from a local groery store after buying something else. You are absolutely right, took one bite of the cake and tossed it. It was awful.

  12. TomCat says:

On a scale of of to ten Mooseolini, aka Bimbo Barbie, is a hypocrite.

I’ve noticed quite a bit how degraded our food has become. I used to love a cannibal sandwich (burger, onions, condiments, bread). Now I wouldn’t dream of it.

I hope the guy gets off, but I doubt it. A prosecutor’s political career depends on keeping that conviction record unblemished.

  13. Suzan: Godiva is pretty crappy. Know how they get that slick look? Wax. And way too much of it. Ever try See’s Candies out of California? Now THAT is chocolate!

Beach Bum: It’s rather disappointing, isn’t it?

TomCat: Ever try Five Guys? If not, you’re missing one of the few really good burgers left in this country.

  14. oso says:

See’s Candy is great. My mom used to work there, See’s is union! so there you go!

  15. Oso, Mr. Bee works for an international shipping company, and at christmas his counterpart with a California customer would send him a box of See’s. Of course, I fell in love with it. Every year at christmas and valentine’s day they open up a temporary shop here in VA, so we get it twice a year. I’m glad to hear they’re a union shop – it shows in the quality!

  16. Jess says:

II just got See’s candy today as a matter of fact. The coconut filled milk chocolates are teh awesome. You know I can send some to you Bee if you want them. Just say the word and they’ll be thete.

  17. Jess, you’re a good friend, but no need for that. I like getting them once or twice a year – keeps them special :)

  18. WTF?? #1. But the Beverly Hillbillies were all benign, lovable, characters. Palin is a hustler, pure and simple. As a TV character, I think she would’ve made a perfect woman-on-the-side for J.R. Ewing. Birds of a feather, sort of.

WTF?? #2. Often, disappointing frozen foods are caused by faulty handling after the stuff leaves the producer’s plant. Ever been in a supermarket late at night, and seen boxes or stacks of frozen items sitting in the aisle for extended periods, waiting to be put in the freezer case? I have, many times. Ever seen a supermarket have feezer problems? Ditto.

Then, sometimes, people let frozen items partially or even completely thaw before they get them home and into the freezer.

I’m not saying mishandling somewhere along the line caused your cakes to be disappointing, Bee, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it played a part.

BTW, don’t you have Fannie Farmer shops in Va.? They’re nearly identical to See’s Candies.

WTF?? #3. I’m sure Toyota will do anything it can to keep the number of models and years implicated in this mess from expanding, but the way cars are manufactured, a 2006 could very well be defective. It’s not a matter of model year change, but when they started installing the hardware, electronics or software that’s responsible, and that could’ve been at any time. Koua Fong Lee needs the services of a really good defense lawyer, one willing to dig into the Toyota situation in a big, investigative way. I hope he gets one.

  19. SW: Ooh, I never thought of pairing her with JR – you might be on to something there. Who has PhotoShop?? :) I’m pretty sure Pepperidge Farms changed the formula to their frozen cakes – the icing is different than I remember, the cake part doesn’t even match Twinkie standards, so I’m pretty sure they would suck even if handled correctly. We don’t have a Fannie Farmer nearby…we do have a Russel Stover’s plant just up I-95. Neither can compare to See’s IMHO :)

  20. TomCat says:

Ever try Five Guys? If not, you’re missing one of the few really good burgers left in this country.

    Ummm… I prefer ladies.
